Die erste Schau Aufbruch in die Moderne wurde von rund 28.000 Besuchern gesehen.<br \/>\nAls auch weitere Ausstellungen erfolgreich verliefen, entschied der damalige L\u00e4nderbank-Generaldirektor Franz Vranitzky, dieses kulturelle Provisorium zu einer dauerhaften Einrichtung zu machen \u2013 unter dem Namen L\u00e4nderbank-Kunstforum und geleitet vom Klaus Albrecht Schr\u00f6der (mittlerweile Direktor der Albertina).<\/p>\n<p>Der Architekt Gustav Peichl erhielt 1988 den Auftrag zum Umbau des Kunstforums, die Wiederer\u00f6ffnung fand im M\u00e4rz 1989 statt. Bald darauf benannte der neue Eigent\u00fcmer, die Bank Austria, die Einrichtung in Bank Austria Kunstforum um.
